Three years into this post, he decided to return to teaching and research and was a Professor of Higher and Adult Education at Maryland until 1993 when he was given Emeritus status. Bob specialized in higher and adult education policy, research, and administration, and later in his career became interested in fund raising for educational and non-profit organizations. During his career he lectured and consulted on educational topics in Germany, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, the Bahamas, Norway, Holland, and Hungary. Early in his career, Bob had the honor to conduct educational research under the direction of James Bryant Conant, a former president of Harvard University and Ambassador to Germany. Bob was active in the Democratic Party in Montgomery County and ran for Maryland State Senate in 1982 for his district in Silver Spring/Burtonsville. He was also an avid drummer.
